Catherine Ann Britz died unexpectedly in August 2022. In the immediate aftermath of her death, Catherine was able to make a final gift of tissue donation through Gift of Life. Her gift has meant that countless others have had an improved quality of life. Looking for ways to find meaning beyond her final gift, her family chose to create a foundation in her memory in 2024.
Cathy was a lifelong resident of Detroit, and the simplest pleasures in life brought her immense joy: arts and crafts, going to the movies, enjoying a good meal, reminiscing over family photos, feeding the waterfowl at the park (Belle Isle was a favorite destination), and spending time with her housemates at the assisted living facility
Cathy was a lifelong resident of Detroit, and the simplest pleasures in life brought her immense joy: arts and crafts, going to the movies, enjoying a good meal, reminiscing over family photos, feeding the waterfowl at the park (Belle Isle was a favorite destination), and spending time with her housemates at the assisted living facility she called home.
But her greatest love in life was swimming- and she went every time she had the opportunity. Cathy lived a life without limits- not in spite of them. She lit up every room she entered, and was always the life of the party. She enjoyed traveling, although her favorite destination was always Frankenmuth- a trip she made many times as a child with her family.
The mission of The Catherine A Britz Foundation is to create a more just and accessible communities in the places that our loved ones call home.

In her memory, the Catherine A. Britz Foundation is launching a scholarship fund to support college students who have siblings with disabilities.
Cathy's life was a testament to joy, resilience, and a boundless love for others. Despite facing intellectual and developmental challenges, she embraced life with an infectious enthusiasm that left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. From her love for arts and crafts to cherished moments at the movies, Cathy found happiness in the simplest pleasures.
One of Cathy's greatest joys was swimming, an activity she pursued with unwavering passion. Her radiant presence, whether feeding waterfowl at Belle Isle or sharing laughter with housemates at her assisted living facility, illuminated every space she entered. Cathy's life exemplified living without limits, and she effortlessly became the life of every party.
To honor Cathy's memory and continue her legacy of joy and inclusion, we are establishing the Catherine A. Britz Foundation Scholarship Fund.
